I was born in San Diego, and I spent my elementary and early middle school years here. I absolutely love San Diego, and my childhood years were filled with laughter and sunshine, with my big sister and little brother by my side. When I was 11, my parents gathered the family together and gave us some thrilling and life-changing news: we would be moving to the Philippines to be missionaries! When we moved to the Philippines, I attended an international school with an amazing and diverse population of students. I learned so much about how to appreciate diversity among different cultures, how to thrive in new environments, and how to make each day an opportunity for exploration and learning. My time abroad gave me a priceless education that I would not trade for anything. It has encouraged me and molded me into the teacher that I am today - one who uses a variety of strategies in order to effectively teach and embrace each individual student. When I'm not in the classroom, you can find me exploring new places, adventuring with family and friends, reading a book, or picking up a new and exciting hobby - like getting a pilot license!

Education and Experience

This will be my third year joining the team at Literacy First. I attended Point Loma Nazarene University, where I received my B.A. in Liberal Studies with a concentration in International Studies. I then moved to France, where I took French Language courses, and also earned my certification to teach English Language Learners. After returning to California, I attended Point Loma Nazarene University's graduate school, where I received my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.

Prior to Literacy First, I worked in a variety of educational environments: I was an educator in the Deparment of Education and Conservation at SeaWorld San Diego, a private tutor, a classroom assistant, and a substitute teacher with San Diego Unified School District and Poway Unified School District. I am currently back at PLNU working on my Master of Arts in Teaching.

Expectations

I have high expectations for every one of my students, because I have no doubt that they can achieve great things. I plan to walk alongside each child as they strive to improve and develop each step of the way. But that also requires each student to exercise independent problem-solving skills, perseverance, and collaboration. Third grade will be filled with a lot of new and challenging discoveries, and I expect each student to practice good character so that together, we can maintain a positive and safe environment for everyone to reach their full potential.
