How can I help my child study for tests?
  • Ask to see their notes. Have them explain what they learned today.

  • Your student should be reviewing the notes daily, not waiting until the night before to "cram" for a test.

  • Common Core is more than just reciting definitions... it's applying those terms to real-life situations, (story problems, multi-step problems, etc.)

  • Help your student stay organized. Have a dedicated spot for school supplies, homework, newsletters, etc.

  • Don't let them procrastinate! While several of our projects have incremental due dates, there are other assignments, (Book Clubs, cumulative tests, etc.) where the student is expected to complete a certain amount of work or study for a large amount of material over an extended period of time.

  • Tell them you believe they can do it! Model perseverance in your own life, (learning a new language, learning to play a new instrument, fixing a car, sewing a complicated pattern, etc. )

  • Hold them accountable for test corrections, make-up work, missed assignments, etc.
